Just a Pawn?

Personal Log of Lt. Michel Kawalski, Engineer. (NPC)
During the last 24 hours I think I have had only 3 hours sleep. Additional engineers have come on board from the Triumphant to assist with repairs. We have all damaged systems under control and functional. There are some replicator parts needed, before we can make additional repairs. It's all on a priority basis, of course.
I've found that during my short tour as Chief Engineer on the Victorious has been a measured balance of priorities. Maintaining power needs is one thing, but making repairs to damaged systems is another completely different set of parameters.
In a way I feel lucky to be alive. Well, I'm thinking that now, here hours after the battle, and knowing I'm safe, that I should have been scared to death. When in the battle, I was glad I could focus on system reductions and failures. I couldn't think about my safety, but the overall safety of everyone on board.
Sometimes I feel that war or just military engagements can be characterized as a completion of strength. But sometimes . . . I just feel like a pawn in a stacked game of chess.
