A Certain Point of View

Posted on Wed Sep 13, 2017 @ 2:31pm by Lieutenant Colonel S'er'in'e

S'er'in'e sat in a tree observing the compound from a distance through binoculars. Sometimes what he was helped when it came to climbing and his eye sight and hearing helped in conditions like this. S'er'in'e didn't like having people doing what he was not prepared to do himself, he knew that some marines didn't like CO's at the front lines but some liked seeing leaders do instead of sitting at the back out of harms way. The rain tapped the leaves in a chorus without words, innocent and pure, washing away anything and everything as it fell from the heavens. S'er'in'e's fur was soaked but it was nothing new to him as it was a familiar feeling during his training when he was much younger.

As he sat watching the vast majority of nothing aware that only a scant guard patrol was on the surface it left him to believe that the rest were underground. He had no plans yet, he had time, time which he would use at least for now to think about a few things, most notibly was Kasia.

Kasia was a woman of unique talents, courage, considerate, strong willed, a woman of considerable focus. She held her own when she was on Cait facing his Overseer and Ministers. She stood up to his Father, a brave feat considering his Father's skills and talents. She was exposed to his cultural ways and didn't flinch and then there was him. Here was a Caitian male, large in size, as a marine trained in survival and death, as a Caitian naturally talented towards both as well. Kasia did not fear him, not because he wouldn't harm her, but because she knew him. He knew his ways could be troublesome for her, could be troublesome for him sometimes when tradition or culture rears its head for obediant compliance.

He remembered back to his engagement with his holographic self, the death that stemed from it, his assistant killed before his eyes. Then Kasia appeared and the Hologram took an unhealthy interest in her well being. Battered and wounded as he was from some minutes of raw fighting he only just managed to save her but the shame of it remained. Kasia had said it was not him, accepted he was not at fault or to blame but S'er'in'e did. It was difficult getting the images from his mind as he replayed the moment his assistant died in front of him, her throat torn out and thrown aside like a rag doll beyond its novel use. She had told him much about the ordeal but little it did to sooth his woes.

When he went to her quarters after being set free from Sickbay he remembered her charging into his frame, hugging him tightly. Her scent bore with it such comfort, peace and stability that he needed at a moment of termoil.

Kasia had maintained an interest in him through all of this, when she asked him her feelings for her he spoke truth, he was bonding to her. She replied with a similar answer but all rested on her, only she could claim him. Even as she wanted equality he wanted to make sure that she was afforded all that was due to her as his Mate from the Homeworld, as the female she would be afforded much to ensure her health and well being. A home, healthcare, funds, everything she and a family could need.

S'er'in'e was in no rush for a family, he was of the opinion that if she were to honour him with such then he would be greatful. A smile appeared on his face as he thought about a smaller feline running around and a tired Kasia giving chase. A sleeping Kasia and the child nestled comfortably on top of her using her as a bed to rest upon. He remembered doing the same a few times when he was young, the complaining his Mother made.

He knew with Kasia came compromises, life always changed when the interests of feelings of another come into play and S'er'in'e was prepared for it, even if that meant learning to be more flexible with his upbringing. Kasia was aware that his teachings were ingrained into him at a young age, they formed part of who he was and yet knew the effort required to be more of what she needed, not what she was given.

S'er'in'e knew the risks he posed not just to her but anyone. That he could not help but he was aware of them thanks to special classes prior to leaving the Homeworld. He knew his weight was a hazard for Kasia, he knew claw and tooth could harm and as protective as he sought to be he knew one would be required if she claimed him. As he sat in the tree with the rain dripping from his whiskers he rubbed his collar, he'd always had one, only time it came off was to replace it with a larger one as he grew up. He had trouble picturing himself without it even if he knew where it went.

He knew that his proximity to her turned heads especially on the Homeworld as they walked around the shops and stalls of the Grand Market. On the ship few knew however rumour had no doubt gone around but there was nothing that could be done about that. With change came speculation, with speculation came rumour and S'er'in'e knew right away that as soon as he began to hang around with Kasia the rumour mill would talk. How was it that a Human woman could be safe with a natural feline predator? How was it that she couldn't fear what in essence, he could become if pushed too far?

Since being rescued he had been welcomed, his assignment on the Triumphant was an honourable one even if his Father would fail to see such. He looked at his hand, the fur stained a molted green to help conceal him, his otherwise white fur would have stood out far too easily. He remembered when Kasia first touched it, trapped in a cell and chained to the floor. He knew her going in first was probably safer for all considering the situation but Kasia showed no fear. Even still having brutally murdered that Orion slaver she didn't judge him for it, no contempt and part of him had to admit he expected it.

S'er'in'e was used to others judging him, it came with being what he was, some feared him, some admired, many though mostly females found him 'cute' and during his stint in the Marine Academy thought he was something to pet. He was not afraid however to use what he was to achieve a goal, cover a distance quickly was easy. Climbing was of little issue but his talents were focused as a marine to kill, something he was naturally capable of even without Starfleets weapons and technology.

How would his life turn and twist, entwine with Kasia's if she did claim him?
