Location: MCO's Office
Timeline: MD 9 || 1330 Hours
S'er'in'e walked into his office exactly on 08:00hrs, when it came to duty he liked punctuality and thanks to the Major's instructions he was able to operate his holographic tabletop to display his required readings. It came as no surprise that since the ship was docked at UP that crew had shipped off, rotations started or ended and new arrivals filled in the blanks. The Marine section was no different to any other, some departed for other postings, new arrivals stationed on board and even some fresh from training camp. It was these ones that S'er'in'e took notice of.
Any new assignment was a daunting on, new place, new faces, in some cases it was nothing like the classroom said it would be and that made it worse. He had issued orders that these new arrivals on board form up on the deck, he would brief them on a few things to help get them settled, a heads up on the go on board and the do and don't when it comes to the department. From the one way window of his office he could see one of the duty Corporals mustering the new arrivals making sure all the fresh from boot additions were in attendance. This was as much for them as it was the other more seasoned marines joining the ship.
As he left his office he heard the group called to attention. He walked to the Corporal who reported and once permitted, stepped aside. "Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the Triumphant. My name is S'er'in'e. Colonel S'er'in'e and the Marine Commander on board. Before you are assigned to your sections I will give you a run down of the department, myself, my staff and suggestions that might just keep you alive under my command."
S'er'in'e gave a look over the assembled men and women in green. "Including yourselves there are 500 marines on board, there is a command structure and I suggest once you are informed where you are assigned you learn who your NCO's and Officers are." S'er'in'e paused if only briefly. "Master Sergeant Aravan, is the LO, he does not report to you, he reports to the Major and myself. Major Petrova is my Exec, you will encounter her during your time here, follow her orders as you would any other including my own and you will get along fine."
"I want to make it very clear that I do not want glory seekers, egotistical hero want to be's. You are Marines, you will conduct yourselves accordingly." S'er'in'e warned. "Failure to do so will put you before the Major, IF you have failed to heed her advice, you will come before me and I am not as forgiving as the Major. The next step will be before the Captain with my personal recommendation you be reassigned." Now nobody could say they had not been warned.
"We have many facilities on board, from a Gym, a shooting range, educational facilities and a Holodeck for training. If you require a skill set, I will do what I can to have you obtain it, if you want to brush up on one, speak up. Be warned that the Gym can be busy at times and though large it can only support so many. If that is the case the Holodeck can be used as an additional Gym program until required for training." S'er'in'e wanted to let everyone know the state of play when it came to what was available.
"I will not tolerate tardiness, disrespect, stupidity and conduct unbecoming. Male or Female I expect the same from both genders, I expect your best, anything less and you should have joined Fleet." S'er'in'e spoke with a small smile and to the mused chuckles of those gathered. "Help each other, learn from each other. This is not a competition it is a unit and we function as one, a team. Any questions can be forwarded to respective NCO's and Officers." He indicated for the Corporal to take over and dismiss them so they could get on with getting settled in. S'er'in'e meanwhile returned to his office.
He had some service jackets to read, reports to view and a lot to think about.
The computer began to play an ancient Earth Marine Hymn loudly.
Loud didn't help sensitive Caitian hearing, typically when deployed S'er'in'e would insert sound mufflers to prevent ear damage due to high volumes yet he could hear others clearly if spoken to. "Computer mute audio!!"
"I am Gunnery Sergeant Hartman, your senior drill instructor. From now on you will speak only when spoken to, and the first and last words out of your filthy sewers will be “Sir”. Do you maggots understand that?!" the computer responded, sounding like a Marine Drill Instructor who had too much coffee and anger.
S'er'in'e was not one for games and while he didn't know who was responsible, he needed solutions before his temper ran out or his ears hurt. He walked out of his office. "Master Aravan, explanation!" The look on his face was very clear.....the Caitian was not amused and while he didn't know who the culprit was, he just wanted an end to these games.
Gage looked up from where he had been stripping down a TR-116 that had been used on Stameris and blinked. "Sir?" he asked, clearly confused as to the apparent displeasure of the Marine Colonel.
"There was music, loud music, playing in my office just now and someone claiming to be a Gunnery Sergeant Hartman." S'er'in'e explained. "I did not request such music or any music and I do not know of a Gunnery Sergeant Hartman in the department." His ears still slightly ringing uncomfortably from the ordeal.
"We don't have a Gunnery Sergeant Hartman in the battalion, Colonel," Gage said after a moment. "I've made it a point to know every individual's name and record that is currently serving on the ship. Do you want me to go to the comm center and see who is doing it?"
"Indeed, if this is some hazing routine for the new Commander the ones responsible are very brave or exceptionally stupid. I want answers Master Aravan, obtain me some." There had to be truth to his words, he could not just pick out that name and rank at random, then there was the music, such he didn't request yet it played.
"I'll get right on it, Colonel," Gage said as he handed the TR-116 over to another Marine and headed to the communications center.
A short time later, the Captain's voice came over S'er'in'e's combadge. =^=All senior staff report to the ready room. Aravan out.=^=
