Initial Prognosis

Posted on Sun Oct 15, 2017 @ 11:24pm by Lieutenant Colonel S'er'in'e & Lieutenant Sarish-Illiana Luvol

Mission: Strange Matter
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: MD 29 || 2300 Hours

S'er'in'e along with two combat medics is beamed into Sickbay onto the only biobed that could support his considerable weight. They waited for medical officers to take over as they had been by his side non stop since they returned to the Victorious. They handed over the grim after battle medical report. All they could to was ease the pain, but the damage was substantial and it needed proper medical attention.

S'er'in'e had been unconscious since it happened. The combat medics narrowed it down to sensory overload which for a Caitian, who depended greatly on his senses was a critical injury. While everyone held on to hope, it all lay in the hands of proper medical officers.

Nurses ran to help and deal with the basics, Sarish-Illiana had been reading in her office on Caitian physiology and such, when S'er'in'e came in, she ran out and grabbed a medical tricorder at the same time and started scanning the Caitian. She immediately noticed the Caitian's senses were seriously compromised and she needed to get to work at once if there was any hope to save the Caitian's senses.

"Prep him for Surgery, if we start now, we'll have a higher hope of recovery," ordered Sarish-Illiana.

As if in a dream he found himself on the Homeworld, a joyous occasion as he'd just graduated training. His hard work, dedication and effort through the trials had secured him the honourable position of 1st in his class, but he knew only just. His competition was strong and equally capable.

They day was filled with celebration and cheer as everyone was handed new assignments, postings and awards. For S'er'in'e he got to see his family one last time before he left the Homeworld for Starfleet.

Sarish-Illiana prepped for surgery herself and then went to the operating bed that S'er'in'e was on and checked his vitals, and the nurse who prepped him for surgery, also sedated him, so he didn't wake up during the surgery. Sarish started taking the bits of shrapnel out of the Caitian's face, and healed up the deep cuts as best she could.
She then started on the Caitian's eyes to attempt to restore his sight, but found his actual eyes were quite damaged but she hoped that she could repair, so opted to keep them but she didn't hold any hope that they would heal, but they would have to see and possibly remove them and install ocular implants at a later date.

One good thing though was that his retinas were intact, so she didn't need to replicate them.

S'er'in'e had no idea what was to come to him, the impact it would have, the life changing experiences that lay before him. How this injury in the line of duty would forever change things, some good, some bad. He dreamed of his time on the Homeworld with Kasia, how happy she seemed, the smile, the hugs she gave him, the experiences she enjoyed.

Sarish continued to repair the damage, as best she could. She put a decent bandage over S'er'in'e eyes. "Put him on a bed to recover, and I will discuss his condition with him, when he wakes up."

Minutes turned to hours, hours turned into a tug into the waking world but things were already different. He remembered the battle, the mission into the compound and then...darkness. Monitors indicated that he was coming to, he ached slightly from being laying in the same position for so long. "Hello?" He couldn't see, everything was black.

Sarish had been working on her reports while sat next to him, "Take it easy Colonel" she said as she put a hand on his shoulder. "How are you feeling?"

"Groggy, I ache." He could feel the bandage around his face, he remembered everything though wished he couldn't, his face held a tenderness to it, he could smell the scents of others, those that had touched him. "What is the damage?" He hoped for the best, not even close to being prepared for the worst.

"It was extensive, but I managed to heal alot of the wounds, most will heal with no problem, but your eyes were even more so damaged, but I am holding out on some hope that they will heal enough for you to see again, but there is only a slim hope," said Sarish.

"I see." It was painfully obvious by the wilted ears, flattened whiskers that the new was hard felt and not taken well. "If I may be permitted to ask, could you inform Major Patrova of my condition." He remembered that Kasia wanted equality, the good...and the bad such as times like this.

Sarish was taken aback a little, but she re-collected herself, "Yes of course, I can," she said. "You will need alot of support for now, while your eyes heal and Kasia seems like a fantastic person."

"She is......important...to me." S'er'in'e replied. "While testing is inderway will l be permitted to reture to my quarters inder her care until you have you're results Doctor?"

"Yes, you can," said Sarish, "but i want you back here in a few days, to check on the healing."

"As you wish Doctor." Not that S'er'in'e was in a position to offer the faintest of resistance or complaints. "If I may, I'd like to rest?"

"Of course. Shout if you need anything," replied Sarish and she left him to rest and continued her duties.

Left alone S'er'in'e was able to rest, though with such rest came dark thoughts as he pondered on his future and what it might mean for his career and those that would check up on him.
