Reset Again

Posted on Fri Dec 22, 2017 @ 10:39am by Master Chief Petty Officer Thomas Barnes

Mission: Falling Star
Location: Captain's Ready Room

The Ready Room was silent once again. It was illuminated as if it were occupied, especially since its master would eventually return and make use of the office once more.

Commodore Avaran was not the only one to work in the Ready Room. Mechanical systems, such as the gravity plating and environmental controls kept everything in the room affixed to the ground, and kept the air warm and healthy. Giving these systems a boost were the many bonsai trees displayed around the room.

The many meetings had left a fair amount of carbon dioxide behind, much more for the scrubbers and the trees to handle. It was going to take some extra help, and the trees had just been trimmed, limiting their effectiveness.

Once again the subroutine was activated. The bonsai tree closest to the Commodore's desk was bathed in a bright iridescent blue. Every molecule was picked apart, disassembled at the atomic level. These atoms were recycled, and then reassembled using some additional material from replicator storage. A new tree, with extra length, materialized. Though the efficiency of the oxygen scrubbing was increased by a fraction of a fraction of a percent, another objective was made clear: Something much more foul was afoot.

The logs were scrubbed, ensuring no one would know why the tree was suddenly reset, except for the Chief of Operations, and the Executive Officer. This was the fourteenth time the tree was quickly regrown. One was left to wonder... when would the Commodore notice?

The subroutine was reset and returned to dormant status, just waiting for the next opportunity to reset the bonsai tree once more.
