Just Another Mad Mad Day

Mission:
Falling Star
Location: Main Engineering
Timeline: MD 33 II 1418 hrs
The Odyssey class was an advanced piece of engineering; making everything before it simply toys in comparison. However, the more complicated such a vessel becomes, the more chaotic the breakdowns that occur.
For Venus this little dust up was her first real test as department head and the changes she had implemented since she arrived. Over the next few days, she would go over the data and see where she could improve. The vessel did not explode was not the only response to a successful event.
Preliminary reports were coming in from the DC teams on the breaches and so far their work was holding while more extensive repairs have to be done. Whatever she thought of Devereaux's abilities as a team leader, she had to admit they performed remarkably well, even if he was off ship...Maybe that was why they had positive results.
The conduits were also being repaired and there were a few. Fifty-five scattered over several decks. Gefel and Barrows were assisted by over two dozen other engineers to help speed up the process. Only two conduits so far required a complete do around and she was hoping that was the exception and not the rule.
As expected, nonessential systems were also affected. Holodeck 8, replicators on Deck 15, transporters 11 and 12, as well as brownout on Decks 22 and 23. That was just a taste of a list of items that would eventually be looked into.
Though shields had wavered enough for the breaches, she believed she had stabilized the power supply for now, including ordinance. The Tri-Core at least had not caused a breach of their own. They were being watched as if their lives depended on it since it literally did. Power fluctuations could have cascade, the death of many a starship, so she had to be overzealous.
She was given a PADD of other minor nuisances in power disruption. All could wait. Critical systems were the priority of which Gefel was her point man in the field. She would have preferred to be out on deck with a spanner in hand but she had to learn to delegate.
In between giving orders and receiving reports, Venus was fully aware that being in or near Romulan space was going to bring back memories. Memories of one particular Romulan from Nimbus III. Ekkhae t'Khellian had been a military officer of the former regime, the Empire. They had been very close - read intimate- and now those emotions she had tried so hard to suppress were coming to the surface.
With the repairs needed to be done, she didn't need this distraction, especially since Ekkhae's fate was never fully known to her. Such was life.
"Own the space." She whispered as her confidence builder during times of stress. The engineer beside her looked confused but said nothing.
