Preparing For Leave

Posted on Sun Oct 14, 2018 @ 6:02pm by Petty Officer 3rd Class Alexandra "Lexi" Barrows & Lieutenant Commander Kelani Tetanal

Mission: An Oceanic Shoreleave
Location: Observation deck
Timeline: MD 37 | 1300 hours

Kelani entered the Observation deck and heaved a sigh--the quiet here was soothing for her. In spite of the tightest controls she had ever put in place, the agony and fear of the people during the last mission had leaked through and affected her.

She stood quietly, staring out.

Lexi just wanted a drink. She didn't care what it was as long as it was not synthehol. She suspected that was all she was going to get, though, as they weren't quite on leave yet.

She entered and procured a drink from the counter attendant, then glanced around the room as she sipped. Yep, it was synth, but she'd deal. There'd be plenty of time for that real drink once they got down to Pacifica.

Her gaze caught someone standing alone by the view port, and she frowned. The woman looked... distressed? Distracted? Both? Maybe something else entirely.

Rising from the lean she'd taken on the counter while she looked over the room, Lexi approached the woman. "Hi." she said from about a foot and a half away. "You okay?"

Kelani started slightly as Lexi spoke to her. She turned and smiled, saying, “I think so....I’m just having trouble putting our last mission behind me—and I have never been to Pacifica, so I am having trouble getting ready.” She paused for a moment, then said, “I have forgotten my manners—I am Kelani.”

Lexi chuckled. "Alexandra, but most people call me Lexi." she offered in return. "The last mission..." She spent most of her time stuffed into consoles, conduits, crawlspaces and other places that it all pretty much started looking the same to her. "Yeah, kind of disturbing." she commiserated. "But what's to be nervous about Pacifica? It's miles of beach." she said with a grin.

Lexi's good humor was infectious--Kelani found herself smiling for the first time in days.

"That is a very good point," she said, mock seriously. "I have never been here before--"

Lexi nodded. "There, you see? That wasn't so hard, was it?" she teased lightly, still grinning.

“No, indeed,”. Kelani replied, grinning in her turn. “This is just what I have needed, I think—and I thank you for it.” She hesitated for a moment, the ventured, “Perhaps we could visit some places on Pacifica together?"

Lexi smiled kindly. "Sure. Why not." She didn't really know this particular officer, but how else did one get to know someone. "Should be fun." She added with another smile.

Kelani smiled with delight, saying, “Good! I believe we will have quite a good time.” She continued, her eyes twinkling, “Perhaps I should go and pack. Shall we meet in the Transporter Room later?”

Lexi smiled. The woman was very easily excited, but that wasn't a bad thing. Maybe it meant she would be fun to hang out with. "Sure. What time are they letting us start beaming down? Do you know?"

“No, I’m afraid I don’t,” Kelani replied, continuing, “But I believe it will be soon.” She looked out again, saying, “It will be a welcome change.”

Lexi nodded. "Yep. Well, we should both pack so we're ready when they give us he all clear." She grinned. "Later!" She then started for the door to do as she had suggested.

“Yes, later,” Kelani replied grinning. She, too, began to move to
the door. “We will meet in the Transporter Room, yes?”

"Yep!" Lexi called over her shoulder. "See ya!"

“”See you soon!” Kelani replied as she, too, hurried out. Things had begun looking better, thanks to Lexi.
