Mission: On Slippery Ground
Location: Ready Room
Timeline: MD 1 || 0900 Hours

After various duties and reports as well as a mission update from Admiral Breckenridge, Michael tapped his combadge. =^=Captain Weisz, please report to the ready room,=^= he requested of his Executive Officer. With that done, he activated the conference LCARS table to pull up a map of an area of space that bordered the Badlands and zoomed in on it while he waited for the fiery redhead.

Shore leave was over, and it was back to resuming life as she knew it. Maddy had to admit she missed the adventure of life in space, though her time on Pacifica had been relaxing and definitely worth it. The redhead was finalizing the schedules when the call from Michael came through. It didn't take her long to figure out their new orders must have come in. =^=On my way.=^=

Rising to her feet, Maddy made her way out of her office and immediately walked into the ready room once she was close enough for the sensors to pick up her presence. After a moment, her eyes fell on the Commodore as she moved further inside. "You wanted to see me?"

"I did," Michael responded. "We've received our orders and I think Admiral Breckenridge has gone soft on us. We have a milk run escorting a ship to a base near The Badlands. It's not even a few hours away at max warp of the ship we'll be escorting."

Maddy arched a brow. "That's it?" she asked. "That's not likely to take us long at all."

"Seems simple, doesn't it?" he asked. "The ship we'll be escorting is carrying a full cargo of the next generation of bio-neural gel packs." He waited for the implications of that to sink in.

"Nothing is ever simple, though," the redhead stated. She definitely shouldn't read into things yet, but it was clear Maddy was jaded. "Here's hoping things are as simple as they sound, though. We could use it now and then."

"If the words gets out from any source, we'll likely have unfriendly visitors," Michael said. "When I told the briefing, we're going to need to take every suggestion into consideration."

"I'm not exactly sure what kind of suggestions you want. It seems like a simple case of babysitting for us.

"How easy have our past missions ever been, Maddy?" He asked, then paused. "Oh, I wanted to let you know before you saw the roster. Master Chief Barnes is now in charge of Engineering. I offered the position to him this morning and he accepted after our former Engineer requested a transfer."

There was a moment of silence. Maddy was quite happy for Tom, and felt the promotion was well deserved, but it did bother her that Michael was telling her the news and not allowing the new Engineer Chief the chance to do it himself. "I'll have to congratulate him when I see him again."

"That won't be long from now," Michael said. "I'm about to call a meeting of the senior officers."

"By all means," she said, gesturing for him to put the call through.

"I'm not going to assemble them just yet," he said. "After all, you haven't given me the morning reports yet. I like to spend a little quiet time with you in the mornings before things go south."

"What's to report? We just got back from shore leave. Aside from the entire crew being accounted for," she stated.

"The departmental readiness reports?" Michael suggested. "Did the department heads not turn them in today?"

"Those have all been sent to your Yeoman for delivery," Maddy replied, gesturing to the stack of PADDs that were settled in the corner of his desk. "I imagine they're in that stack somewhere."

He looked at the stack of PADDs and groaned. "Thank you. I've been so busy shuffling crew around that I haven't had time to even review those yet. Do you want to take her out once we do the briefing?" he asked, meaning the ship.

Maddy nodded her head. "I can do that when we're ready."

"I'll review these and meet you in an hour," Michael said. "See you then."

"See you then," Maddy agreed before rising to her feet. She had an hour to kill, which meant she'd be able to get a little work done before the senior staff meeting. For a moment, she thought about popping in in Tom and congratulating him, but he had a new department to get familiar with. Instead, the redhead left the ready room to check things on the bridge before going to her office.
