Performance Review - S'er'in'e

Posted on Mon Jul 1, 2019 @ 8:22pm by Lieutenant Colonel S'er'in'e & Captain Madelina Weisz

Mission: Refits and Reviews
Location: Marine Country
Timeline: MD 7 || 1100 Hours

The crew reviews seemed to be endless, and Maddy found herself sick of being in her office, which was what had her walking the corridors of Marine country. She noticed the looks from some of the green collared occupants, but didn't much care to pay them any mind. They weren't any better, or worse, than she was. In fact, they were all cut from the same cloth, and the redhead couldn't help it if the Marines had a different mentality from the rest of Starfleet. However, she'd come across a few who thought along the same lines, but they were few and far between. Still, she was the XO on the Triumphant, and that position gave her a lot of pull.

She spotted the door of her destination up ahead and clasped her hands behind her back, being mindful of the PADD she carried. This particular review was going to be interesting, and she was quite anxious to see how it would pan out. There was only one way to get it started, and that had her pressing the sensor for the chime. Now, all she had to do was wait to be granted entry.

S'er'in'e was sat at his desk with routine reports, there was a some work to do now that the Major had stepped down. He was making sure that everything was settled and arranged for when Aravan stepped into her shoes. He didn't want to dump the workload unfinished into his lap instead opting to let him start on a clean slate.

When his door chime sounded he looked to the door. "Come." When the doors opened and he saw the Captain he stood, bowed as customary. "Captain Weisz." He greeted.

"Colonel," the redhead greeted as she moved to take a seat on the other side of the Caitain's desk. "How are you faring?"

"Well, thank you." He answered staying standing till she had seated. "May I get you something to drink, eat?" Now playing host to the Captain.

"Tea, please. Oolong," she replied. Might as well start things off pleasantly. "How is your wife doing? I heard what happened on board the Apollo with her and her men. I'm sorry for your departments loss."

Replicating the desired beverage then placing it delicately on the table in front of her before taking a seat himself. "She is well, it will take time, she has taken a leave of absence in the mean time." S'er'in'e replied. "May I ask to what I owe the honour of your presence?"

Maddy accepted her tea with a thank you, then reached out to take the cup in one hand. She took a sip and closed her eyes, reveling in the flavor for a moment before returning to the task at hand. After replacing the cup on the desk, she gave the large Caitain her attention once more. "Performance reviews, though, I'm curious. You've said Major Petrova has requested a leave of absence. Who will be taking her place as your Executive Officer?"

"My intention is to place temporary assignment of Lt Aravan in her position." S'er'in'e replied making himself comfortable for one thing that nobody really enjoyed, he was no exception.

Oh, but she knew Commodore Aravan wasn't going to like that even a little bit, but she had faith in the younger Aravan's abilities. "I think that is a good choice," she said, offering him a smile. But, now, it was time to get to business. "So, we both know how these things go. I ask questions, you answer them to the best of your ability. There are no right or wrong answers to these, either. First question. How do you feel you've been doing since you've joined our crew?"

"Satisfactory." S'er'in'e answered. "If I had done something wrong I would have heard about it before now, or I would not be in my position now." S'er'in'e truly hated evaluations, he was a marine, to the point, direct, no beating about the bush.

Maddy nodded her head. She could agree with satisfactory, however, she did have a slight bone to pick with the Colonel over something that happened. "And, when sitting in the center chair of a starship, do you consider it okay for the Commanding Officer to leave their post to throw themselves in the thick of a battle?" she asked. "As former Security, I think the decision was quite rash for an individual that was in your position. Your job, at the time, was to lead."

"While l respect you perspective opinion Captain. What you call rash, l call having the right people, at the right place, at the right time." S'er'in'e replied. "I am a marine, l am trained for such actions as boarding. You are a command officer, the Victorious was in capable hands. That aside the experience has garnered me with the insight never to volunteer to master a vessel again." Which while he may never again be offered, he didnt see that as a loss, but a valuable experience.

Maddy wasn't going to beat a dead horse. She said what she needed to say, and so did he. That was good enough. "With your time aboard the ship, are there any missions you've encountered that stand out more than others?"

"My rescue." It was something that he still thought about. "That aside, I would say no. Being a marine a tasking is what we wait for, we train for it. We do what is required of us and move on. One tasking to the next, I admit to some that might seem a dull prospect to live ones career, but it has served me well."

"So, would you say you learn nothing from previous missions to help you in future ones?"

"Yes, I learned something." S'er'in'e leaned forward. "I leaned not to volunteer to Master the Victorious again. I learned that its very easy for arm chair Commodores to judge my actions who were not there and condemn me for them when as I saw it, I was doing my job. I was trying to save the crew in the cargo hold by removing them to the safety of Victorious and he dares throw dereliction of duty at me in an example, without adequately hearing all the details or been given them?" S'er'in'e did note earlier in the meeting that the Commodore seemed to have had only select snippets of information from the other Captain.

"Yes Captain, I learned something. Do my job as I was trained, but volunteer nothing. The risk of being burned for such is too high."

All Maddy could do was simply nod her head. It was obvious he was a man set in his ways, and arguing would prove to be pointless. Besides, she respected his feelings. "Have you spoken to Aravan about taking on the role of Marine XO yet?"

"Not yet, I was clearing the Major's handlings so that Aravan had a clean slate to step into without having to catch up on things he was ill informed about or the sort." S'er'in'e replied. "Now, if through my review, the Commodore or yourself feels that I am no longer suited for the role please inform me and I will make other arrangements."

"I can't speak for the Commodore, Colonel, but I'm not here to relieve you of your duties," the Captain told him as she rose to her feet. "In fact, before I leave, I want to leave you with this. If you need anything, come talk to me and we'll see what we can do. Good day, Colonel." With that, she turned and made her way out of his office.

"Captain." S'er'in'e parted as he stood up, bowed as custom demanded then watched as his doors closed.
