Mission: An Orion to Die For
Location: Executive Officer's Office
Timeline: MD 2 || 1100 hours

ON:

After leaving Main Engineering, Lt. Vincent Kramer entered a turbolift, "Deck 18, Bridge". As the turbolift moved, Vince thought about what he was going to say when he reported. He had done this chore several times now. He felt that showing confidence and respect was always the best, but needed to be observant.

The turbolift doors opened onto the Main Bridge. Lt. Kramer stepped forward and stopped, glancing right then left. It was a large room. A room that projected elegance and power. He turned and walked off the Bridge and down the passageway to the Office of the XO.

Stopping before the door, Kramer checked his uniform quickly then tapped the chime button next to the door.

Looking over some more personnel files of the ship's newest crew, Maddy chewed on the inside of her cheek as she concentrated. "Come," she called when the chime alerted her of someone's presence. She wasn't necessarily expecting anyone, but as the XO, there were people coming and going from her office on a regular basis, so this wasn't so unusual to her.

Vince entered the spacious office and glanced around slightly as he approached the woman in the room. He, of course, had looked up and read what he could about this Officer he was about to meet. He was glad too, because if he had not read of her strength and beauty in advance, he might just stumble over his words when he tried to report. Her beauty was so much greater than the words he had read. He knew she was slightly younger than her and very career driven.

Stopping a couple paces from the woman, Kramer came to attention and stated, "Lieutenant Vincent Kramer reporting for duty, Sir." He had read that her father had been a Starfleet Captain and that she was a 'stickler' for regulation, so Vince thought that would be better than 'Ma'am'.

Maddy looked to the man that just entered her office and reached onto her desk to grab a PADD to pull up his personnel file. After looking it over briefly she turned her attention back to him. "Our new Chief Engineer. Have you been to your department yet to look around yet?"

"Yes," Kramer replied casually, still standing before her. "I've just observed the team from the upper deck. I haven't spoken to the team leaders nor gone to the office yet."

Maddy nodded her head and gestured for him to take a seat. "Can I get you anything before we get started?"

Vincent took a step over to a chair and sat down, but not leaning back. "No . . Sir." Kramer replied. He had almost used the word Ma'am again. He thought, Maybe another day.

"So, Lieutenant Kramer... what can you tell me about yourself?" Maddy asked, folding her hands on top of her desk. "I can read things in your file, but I'm looking for an answer that can't be found there."

Vince realized that she didn't want his experience, but something more about him. She was asking exactly what he will be asking of his team leaders. After just a long second Kramer replied, "Well Sir, I enjoy music. Many times I remember personnel and procedures by corrilating them with musical themes I have heard and played. It's a technique i've used successfully for 10 years or so."

"Interesting," the Commander said. "What can you tell me about your experiences during your career?"

Experiences? he thought then replied, "It took a few years, but I feel I finally found a goal to strive for while in Starfleet. I feel large capital ships like the Odessey Class are the way to go for Starfleet. I have served aboard several before being assigned here. The support and strength they can provide have a definite impact on the situations and other races we encounter."

"I've served on this ship for over a year, and the crew has been one of the best I've ever worked with. I'm sure some of them might have some not so nice things to say about me, and that's fine. As long as people do their jobs, we wont have any issues," Maddy said. "Do you have any questions for me?"

Vince thought for a moment, then asked, "I have known some command officers that want to see some officers given opportunities. So, are there any engineers currently on board that you wish to remain in a senior position?"

"As you are our new Chief Engineer, you can run your department as you see fit. That being said... if I hear or see any problems, that's when I'll step in," the Commander replied.

"Understood," the Engineer commented. "I will be reviewing all Engineering personnel, be assigning shift leaders, and training schedules."

"I expect to see a copy of those changes when they've been made, Mister Kramer. If you don't have any futher questions for me, you're dismissed. Welcome aboard," she said offering the new Lieutenant a smile. "If you have more questions, you're welcome to ask them, or message me as they come to you. Either way is fine."

Lt. Kramer stood after the word 'dismissed', but remained attentive until she finished. "Yes Sir. Thank you Sir," Kramer stated as he came to attention. "I'm sure we will be in touch." With a confirming nod to his new XO, Vincent turned about and walked toward the door.

The door opened and closed automatically as Vince exited. He stopped a couple paces past her door and considered the power and confidence that this woman held. He knew this assignment was going to be the most rewarding and most challenging of his career.
