The 32nd Angels

Posted on Wed Jan 25, 2017 @ 3:47pm by Lieutenant Marisa Cheshire

Mission: An Orion to Die For
Location: Marine Galley
Timeline: MD 3 || 1515 Hours

Following her conversation with the Marine CO Marisa headed over towards where her Squadron had holed up. A couple of them were joking among themselves and others chatting to some Marines around a table strewn with platters. She'd given up on multitasking and vectored as straight as the table layout would allow towards her comrades.

"See, everything worked out." Her wingman, Larry, said with a wide smile. "And we didn't even need to pull out the big guns." He continued, nodding towards a small stack of duffels with a guitar having pride of place.

"Good work Mobius, but I'm more interested in feeding my face at this moment in time." Marisa replied with an exhausted smile as she took her seat across the way from him.

"Well then, perhaps madam would care for a meal." Larry replied with a wide smile as he reached across the table to a platter protected by a metal cover. He popped it off and displayed the contents. "This evening we're serving a fillet of Tilapia with fries and a salad along with tartar sauce." He said, placing the patter in front of her.

Marisa grabbed a set of cutlery that had been left along with the plate and instantly dug in to the meal. After the first piece of fish was securely in her mouth she leant back and groaned as she felt the meat slide down her throat.

"I think you and that dinner are moving a bit too fast." Larry said with a chuckle as he watched her eat.

"One year Mobius." Marisa said, glaring at her wingman as she cut into the next piece. "It's been a year since I had a something that wasn't replicated or Klingon."

She took the piece and repeated the process as though it was a ritual.

"So, I've been chatting to some of the rough necks around here," Larry said, leaning forward and keeping his voice low. "Apparently they've already nabbed Raimus. The Squadron and I are wondering when we leave."

Marisa finished swallowing the latest mouthful "Well," she started before taking a drink from a straw mounted to the inside of her life support cowl to cleanse her pallet. "The Captain explained that his ship wasn't done in the sector and asked us to stay on for a while." She said with a slight smirk.

Larry rolled his eyes and shook his head, "You don't need to be an empath to know that's not the whole story."

"Well, the Captain also said that he needed a CAG, and that my record made me a good fit," Marisa said with a slightly proud smirk.

There was a pause between them as Larry's expression developed an incredulous smile, "You're sure that he was reading your record, right?"

Marisa giggled a little. "That was my first question."

"Wow, Alice got CAG." Larry said with a distant smile before refocusing his attention. "What did you tell him?"

Marisa held up her finger while she finished her next bite and took another sip from her water tank. "What do you think? If I head back to the home system for reassignment I'll end up as an instructor pilot again or a flight lead at a boring core system post. And have you seen this ship?"

Sensing the next question coming Marisa leapt on it before Larry had a chance to respond. "They're also down a squadron. Had to leave port in a hurry or something. If the boys want to join up here they're more than welcome. If not I'll make sure they get home safe."

"I don't think they'll chancing it with personnel if this is up for offer." Larry said, gesturing around the galley with both hands.

"Yeah, well, make sure you mention to them that they might be missing out on some leave, but I'll make sure that it's made up." She said, finishing her last bite.

"Me?" her wingman protested, his eyes following Marisa as she stood up.

Marisa looked down at him with a patronising smile. "I'm CAG now, and I've got to go make nice with as many department heads as possible." Her expression became something a bit more apologetic as she continued. "I'd like you to go down to the hangar and round up the rest of the pilots and crew if you wouldn't mind. I'm going to have a shower, get changed and try to make nice. Then I'll come down and deal with the hard stuff."

"Aye Aye Sir." Larry said with an exasperated sigh as his hands came to rest behind his head.

There was another moment as Marisa walked away to collect her things before he slapped his hands together to get his squadron's attention "Alright, Angels, if you've finished your meals grab your gear and head on down to the Hangar."

Marisa left to the galley to the sound of her Squadron grabbing their gear and getting ready for work.
