Mission: Strange Matter
Location: Turbolift, En route
Timeline: MD 27 || 0900 hours

Ensign Walsh had just gone over the list of new arrivals that would be replacing the many crew members that had died in their last mission. That in itself had been very bad. Then there was the follow up with all of the survivors. It had been a rough time for all to say the least. But now that was behind them and they were going to be moving forward...a repaired ship and some new crew. Terry put the PADD away and grabbed another one to make some notes on for requests and ideas and such. His plan was to visit the shops on the Promenade and touch base with some of the personnel there. So he left his office area and headed out to the corridor, looking for the nearest turbolift.

Once aboard, he ordered, "Deck Ten." The lift started and then seemed to stop just as quickly. Deck Eight to Deck Ten...stopped at Deck...ohh, that's odd. he thought.

Holly, departing Sickbay, was still wrapt in all she'd seen and discovered. Things were better than she could have imagined so much so that when she pressed the call button for the turbo lift and the doors opened almost at once, she was smiling to herself as they slid apart to reveal a man standing inside staring at her.

Terry stared at the brunette in...well, a teal uniform. "Well good morning Ensign Medical or Science." Terry stepped to the side to allow her in. "Where are you headed this morning?"

"Good morning Ensign." she responded, still smiling. " Its Medical and Deck 15 please." she replied

"You heard the lady, Deck Fifteen, Computer," said Terry. The six foot, two inch, two hundred twenty pound Morale Officer smiled at the Ensign. "Ensign Medical...still doesn't sound right. I'm Terry Walsh Moral Officer."

"Sorry.." Holly laughed a little nervously. " I thought you meant which....Its Meadows. Holly Meadows. Arrived yesterday and just been looking at Sickbay."

The fact that she was very happy about that fact was plain to see when she smiled up at him once more.
The turbo lift hummmed into life.

Terry laughed. "It's okay. I did mean which department. I also meant your name as well. So, was Sickbay all it was cracked up to be?"

She nodded. " Yes indeed." she said. " But its so huge. I dont know why...I just wasnt expecting all that. I can hardly wait to get in there."

"Yeah, it's a large one. I spend a little time in there, a little time in the office, and most of my time visiting with crew members wherever I can find them and the Senior Staff," replied Terry. "Well, when they're not busy. The Sickbay fits the rest of the ship, though. I don't think I've ever been stationed on a ship this large. It's like a Starbase with nacelles."

"This is actually my first time on a ship..well apart from transport to the hospital I mean. Its going to be so...well...amazing to be out there." She waved her hand across the expanse of the wall imagining the space beyond then immediately felt foolish.
"Sorry." she said and looked up at the deck listing.

"Hey, nothing to be sorry for," said Terry. "It takes a while to get used to it all, the ship, space, the great expanse of the galaxy, all of it. So since it's your first time on a ship, you've probably never explored what it has to offer to rest, relaxation, recreation, and so on, have you?"

Holly shook her head. "No not yet." she replied. " I read the details left in my quarters though. I thought Id sort things out there then go exploring."
She smiled at the thought.
"Youve been here a long time then?" she asked.

"Heh, not here, on the Triumphant, but serving in one form or another," said Terry. "I've been in space for quite a while, mostly on starships."

She looked mildly impressed at this news but questioned it a moment later.
"One form or another?" she asked.

"Yep," Terry said, as the lift slowed to a stop. "I was a Starfleet Marine Corp fighter pilot for years. Then I became an instructor for a while before I resigned my commission. After a hiatus, I rejoined on the Starfleet side. Took a drop in rank...rather drastically...but it was the only way they would let me back into service. So here I am, an Ensign and a Morale Officer. I know how bad morale can plummet, so it's a good thing for me."

"Oh that explains it." Holly said " I mean...with respect...you dont much look like my idea of a Morale Officer...no offence meant." she added.

Terry held his arm out, motioning for Holly to go first. "After you. And no offence taken. Looks can be deceiving, as they say."

As she stepped out she was partly thinking which way she needed to go and also that if ever caught in dire straights then someone like Ensign Walsh would be the type to raise morale without a doubt.

"So are you happy with your new role then?" she asked turning to him until they were level. " Do you ever wake up wishing you could be back in the pilots seat?"

"I am," said Terry. "I'm happy with being a Morale Officer. It's a change of pace that was needed. As far as being back in the pilot's seat, there are times, yeah. I miss it. Not as much as I thought I would, though. So what exactly do you do in Medical?"

"Everything!" Holly replied and laughed a little.
"At the moment Im a Medical Officer so that encompasses just about everything. Its general medicine with a little surgery thrown in....the mundane to the challenging. I think its much too soon to choose one branch to specialise in. I havent experienced enough to say 'I prefer this to that' or ' This is me, this is what I want to do' There's plenty of time."

Terry continued with Holly down the corridor. "You're right about that, there's plenty of time. But I'm sure that you're enjoying yourself as a Medical Officer. Especially the surgery part. I understand that takes a steady hand and a quick-thinking mind."

"Its a vast subject." Holly replied looking up at the tall figure beside her "..but fascinating. Some things you can do really quickly others obviously not. I think it brings in a more personal aspect too. I mean..you cant be totally removed from it.
Its one thing to use a hypospray or run a physical but completely different to fix someones internal organs or bones or skin even. At least I think so."
She smiled to him again wondering if he understood her train of thought.

Terry looked down at the dark haired brunette and nodded. "I wouldn't know from experience, but I can imagine that fixing internal organs does personalize it to a degree. You get to know what an individual is like on the inside...literally." He looked around for a moment and realized that Deck Fifteen was quarters and quite a ways from the Promenade. "Heh, it seems I'm quite the distance from my intended destination. But such is the life of a Morale Officer. We go where needed."

"Ive taken you away from your work...sorry..thats what chatting does I suppose?" They had come to halt and she held out her hand.
"It was a pleasure to meet you Ensign Walsh. If my morale ever drops then I know who to find now."

"No, no. I didn't mean it that way," said Terry. "This is my job, chatting and so on." He gently took her had and shook it. "But it has been a pleasure. And feel free to stop my office anytime. If you'd like a tour of the Promenade or Rec Rooms, I'd be happy to oblige." He released her hand and then cocked his head to the side slightly. "Say, where's that smile that kept popping up earlier?"

It was back.
"Thankyou." she said simply. "Im going to turn my' house into a home' as they say but I aim to find the Promenade later."

"Then enjoy making a home," replied Terry. "Perhaps we'll see each other there later." He grinned and turned around to head back to the turbolift. She seemed to be another satisfied customer to the Triumphant. It really was a nice ship and he was glad that most other people could see that. It made his job a whole lot easier.

Holly watched him walk off for a few steps then turned in the direction of her quarters. She had a busy day planned.
