We Meet Again

An Orion to Die For

Martha had decided to go to The Black Hole for her lunch break on her first duty shift aboard the Triumphant. She had informed Elsie to report here to find out about her job but her daughter had needed to visit sickbay first because she wasn't feeling too well. After placing an order for her food Martha chose a vacant table in the corner of the restaurant and took her seat. Martha had ordered an ocean pie and she was very much looking forward to it.
Not far from where the woman was sat, another set of doors to the R&R facility. Sauntering in, head buried in the schematics of the new armour that had been brought aboard, Lieutenant Smyth slowly made his way to the bar and took a seat on a stool.
Martha's head was turned by somebody moving out of the corner of her eye - she recognised the man who had walked past her but where was he from? There was only one way to find out - go and ask him. Martha quickly walked over to the man and stood next to the stool he was sat on.
"I remember you from somewhere...but where I wonder?" Martha said enthusiastically.
"I could never forget you," the Trill smiled as he offered a hand, his eidetic memory clearly helping him on this occasion. "Lukiz Smyth. We served on the Nogura with Captain Azulas during the Hunter incident. I transferred to the Scorpio soon after," the man revealed.
Martha smiled and extended a hand to Lukiz and shook it firmly. She was happy to see a familiar face from the past and hoped that they'd be able to pick up where they left off aboard the Nogura.
"Oh yes of course. I've just transferred from the Nogura in the last couple of days - we had some fun times but I thought now was a good a time as any to move on. Would you like to join me for lunch? I have a table booked with a seat that's got nobody sitting in it" Martha replied.
"Oh? Why thank you," the Lieutenant smiled as he looked towards the table that had been booked. The waiter placed his drink on the bar and Smyth took hold of it.
Martha smiled and gestured over to the vacant table and led the way over. She sat down behind the table and waited for Lukiz to take his seat. Martha had ordered fish, potatoes and an assortment of vegetables for her lunch and she was very much looking forward to it after the morning's light breakfast of two pieces of toast.
"How are you finding it here so far?" Martha asked.
Lukiz sat down and placed the data PADD on the table so that he didn't appear rude. "It's... big," he smiled taking a sip of his drink. "Engineering is amazing though. Fancy technology all over the place, not to mention the Slipstream drive. How about yourself?"
Martha was enjoying it so far. For sure she loved the Tactical system - and this time around that was all she would be focusing on. Martha had always felt stronger tactically so she felt it was a position that she could perform to the full extent of her abilities.
"I love the weapons systems. The Nogura was a powerful beast but this is another ship altogether...and our quarters are really big too. Even with three of us and a bird cage in the lounge it still feels really spacious" Martha replied.
"Space certainly isn't at a premium here," Lukiz smiled as he sipped his drink a little bit. "How are the family getting on?" he enquired thoughtfully.
Martha smiled. She was pleased Lukiz had remembered her family - even if they had only briefly served together. It was a good opportunity to get to know him better aboard the Triumphant and she looked forward to it.
"Oh they're great thanks. I've been married for four years already and my daughter's sixteen - in fact I'm hoping she'll be able to get a job in here to give her some experience. Are you planning on eating at all?" Martha replied.
Lukiz shook his head. "I'm a light eater. I'll have something later. An unusual trait for my people, what with the symbiont and all..." he smirked.
"I wish I could say I was. The amount of food I eat...I guess it's a good thing that I exercise regularly. The one thing I miss about the Nogura is the chef - although I'm sure the one here is just as good" Martha responded.
"Let's hope so, for all our sakes. Although I never really trusted him..." Lukiz narrowed his eyes as he sipped his drink. He had always found the Cardassian too good to be true.
Martha nodded. "Neither did I...but I won't go into that story. His food was good though. The guy that came in to replace him was just as good though. Shame really...I always liked Reshad."
"I certainly trusted him more than that Ambassador we had with us..." the Trill scoffed as he put his now empty glass on the table. "I don't know how the Captain ever tolerated that man."
Martha hated Tyvel Survek with a passion. She more than anybody else on the Nogura wanted to leave him behind on Rakhar - alas that didn't happen.
"Oh him. He soon stopped laughing and gloating when I got this..." Martha said - gesturing to the second solid gold pip on her collar.
"I have to say he was possibly the least favourite person I have ever encountered in my life. And that Science Officer...his name escapes me though. Would you care for another drink - for old time's sake?" Martha asked as she finished her own.
"I'd better be getting back to Engineering," she smiled in thanks. "We're running some simulations and tests on components of the slipstream drive later." He rose from his chair. "A please to see you again Lieutenant," he offered a hand.
Martha stood up and smiled - giving Lukiz a firm handshake. Just as she shook his hand her lunch was delivered. She thought that was rather good timing.
"It was a pleasure to see you too. Best of luck with your simulations" Martha replied.
Lukiz smiled and nodded in thanks. "Enjoy your meal Lieutenant," the Engineer spoke quietly before walking away and exiting the mess facility.
