Informing The Staff

Mission:
An Orion to Die For
Location: Security Chief's Office
Timeline: MD 1 || 1630 hours
The briefing ended, Douglas once again called his Second into his office. This time, however, there was no pleasant, laid-back aire to him. This time, he was all business. Oh, he still had his seemingly-ever-present cup of Marai coffee, but otherwise his manner spoke of tightly-coiled readiness.
Xylia wasn't sure why she was being called to Mallory's office, but it must have been important. She set down the PADD she was currently outlining the new duty roster on after saving her work, then rose to her feet. It had already been a long day. Not only were the majority of the senior officers aboard the ship new, but so were a lot of the personnel, and a few of them were fresh from the Academy. It was going to be fun to break some of them in, and that was going to start first thing in the morning at oh-six-hundred hours when they got a taste of training Lischka style.
She made her way out of her office and quickly moved to the Chief's, reaching out to press the chime next to the door. While she waited to be granted entry, she reached for the hem of her uniform jacket and pulled down in an effort to straighten it out. The German woman was grateful to have some kind of distraction from work, but she had a feeling what was waiting for her on the other side of the door had nothing to do with tea parties and hookah smoking caterpillars.
"Enter." Douglas called, glancing up from his PADD of information as the doors slid open to reveal his Second. "Please have a seat, Lieutenant Lischka." He motioned to the chairs opposite his position and waited for her to sit. "This shouldn't take too long, but we now have our mission orders." he informed her, holding out the PADD to her. Once she had read through that, he would give her the rest.
The German woman accepted the PADD when it was handed to her and began to look over the information. "These... are our mission orders?" she asked in disbelief, looking toward her new Chief.
Douglas nodded somberly. "Yes. There's more though. Because of the nature of not only where we're going but why, Security and the Marines will be working together to keep the ship secure during this mission." he told her, watching her expression for indicators of her own personal response to that information.
"Honestly... I wouldn't really expect anything differently all things considered. We're going into this situation blind, and who knows what's going to be waiting for us?" the Lieutenant asked. Something about all of this didn't sit well with her, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it. Or... maybe she could. "I don't like this, though, and I'm not talking about working with the Marines. I'm talking about the entire mission as a whole. Of course... who am I to criticize? I'm just a grunt who does as she's told once the orders have been passed down." Of course, there was no sense in butting heads with Mallory over this, though. It wasn't his fault she thought Starfleet brass were idiots.
Douglas sighed a bit, not at her though. In truth, he hated this as much as she did. "I'll be honest, Lieutenant. I don't like it any better than you do. Going in blind like this leaves far too many ways this mission can go sideways, and there is pretty much no way we can prepare for all of them." he said with a frown. "That's why I think this working with the Marines is a very good idea. The more eyes on the situation, the better." He held her gaze. "Do you have any questions or any more concerns, Lieutenant?" he asked, truly wanting to know what his Second thought.
"No. At this point, the only option is to go in with extreme caution and handle anything that looks suspicious before it has a chance to handle us," Xylia stated.
Douglas nodded. "Agreed." He liked the way she had put that. "Then let's get to it. Dismissed."
"This is going to be interesting," Xylia said as she rose to her feet. "I'm going to go see what I can find out as far as this..." She didn't even have a word for what this mission was. "If I come up with anything, I'll let you know." And on that note, the Lieutenant excused herself from the office to get to work. It was going to be a long night.
