A Letter To A Friend

Martha's lunch break had arrived and bang on time the lunch she ordered from The Black Hole had arrived. She had decided to have her lunch in her office today in order to have some quiet time to write a letter to one of her old friends who she hadn't seen in over six months. Lifting the lid from the tray to reveal her chicken fillet, potatoes and mixed vegetables Martha put it to one side and prepared to start her letter.
"Computer - please set up a Do Not Disturb for this office exluding any communications from the Commanding Officer or Executive Officer. Start from now until 12:30 hours" Martha instructed.
"Affirmative"
Martha ordered herself a cup of tea from the replicator and brought it over before taking a few mouthfuls of her lunch. As ever the food was delicious and Martha was pleased with the slightly larger than usual portion size - with the Lieutenant guessing Elsie had played a part in that.
"Computer - begin composing a letter" Martha instructed.
"Confirmed. Please state the recipient"
Martha said. "Commodore Claudia Ainscow of Starfleet Command in San Francisco"
The computer chirped and worked for a few moments. When ready Martha began to compose the letter. Martha and Claudia usually exchanged communications once every few weeks but lately Martha's transfer to the Triumphant along with her busy schedule had prevented her from responding to Claudia's last letter.
"Dear Claudia and family.
Firstly I want to apologise for the delay in getting back to your last letter to me. My transfer to the Triumphant and our hectic schedule has kept me busy as I'm sure you'll understand. I hope the four of you are all well and settling into your new home
It's a shame we couldn't have caught up when we were on shore leave recently. We were on Earth and went to Sicily for a holiday - we had an amazing time and Elsie met a new friend there too. I'll enclose some photos from our holiday album so you can see some of the places we went to while we were there
How are you finding your new role in Starfleet Command back on Earth? I have to admit Earth was one of the things I missed the most when I was in the Gamma Quadrant and well...the holodeck isn't the same as the real thing. I suppose that's part of the parcel of being a Starfleet officer - although I've got to admit I've seen some beautiful places out here and met some wonderful people
How is Rebecca getting on with her training to become an officer? I think it's great she's finally pursuing her dream to work in Starfleet Operations even if it's a bit later than she initially planned. If she ever needs any help I can forward my revision notes - I've still got them somewhere so if she wants them let me know
Life on the Triumphant has been...interesting...so far. I've not really formed many friendships but I enjoy serving with my colleagues very much. Lucia and Elsie are both really happy here too - Elsie got her first ever job as soon as she arrived in The Black Hole restaurant. The food there is amazing and she's doing really well - her confidence has improved massively and it's also some experience to put on her record
How are Grace and Julia doing? I'll make sure I have something sent for Julia's birthday but between us I'm hoping to be there for her birthday this year - so if I can get some shoreleave around then I'll let you know so Auntie Martha can come and surprise Julia with a visit on her birthday. I still can't express how proud I am to be her godmother
Again I'm sorry it's taken so long to reply to you. Now everything has settled down I hope to be able to reply much sooner than I have this time around
Until the next time
Martha"
