Let's Have a Look Shall We?

Posted on Mon May 20, 2019 @ 7:25pm by Ensign Autumn Rivers & Lieutenant JG Leonardo Francesco MD

Mission: Refits and Reviews
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: MD 1 || 1000 Hours

Leo was in Sickbay having just treated a crewman for a chipped tooth. It was a minor thing really that hardly took up much time at all. A chip that managed to crack the core of the second bicuspid needed cleaning, sealing and treating. The crewman was fortunate that the crack was limited to the Enamel and didn't enter the Dentine level. That would have been painful to be sure but fortune favoured him this time. There was hardly any pain, very little discomfort and he'd be back to eating in about 20 minutes. After a brief spell of dental advise and a reassuring pat on the shoulder that all was well, the crewman left and Leo was left cleaning up his station and bed that he'd used.

It was at this time he wondered about the assignment, he'd applied for a few sure but there was always one you hope to get but don't rest much on getting. Typical that he'd get the roll of the dice and get it. He didn't tell many of his friends what he got because he knew two applied as well from his class at Starfleet Medical. He didn't want to be the one to burst some bubbles with his own fortune. So here he was, on the Triumphant, Lady Luck smiled on him and here he was.

He'd just placed the used equipment into the device for sterilisation, activated it while he put everything else back into its place while he waited for it to finish its programmed cycle.

Once she had been beamed aboard the ship instead of taking a shuttle to it, River had her gear and personal belongings beamed over, then got her quarters assigned sussed out, got lost twice looking for the correct medical area to go into the two deck medical department.

When the tall young woman entered in her gold colored uniform that she was sure she had a stain on somewhere she couldn't see, Autumn looked around. "Excuse me?" she asked someone near her. "Who would I see about getting a physical?"

Leonardo looked up as soon as he heard a voice, what he saw however, or more over whom, left him stuck for words. A quick mental check snapped him back to the now and not the admiring her world he was just within. As soon as he opened his mouth his accent was in full swing. "You can see me, please, take a seat. Dr Francesco, Leonardo Francesco, are your service." His arm out to the bed next to him, the same one he'd just finished preparing from his minor dental work on the crewman just now.

Amber looked at the man who was barely taller than she was and saw how attractive he was. She instinctively started to request a link with the main computer, but remembered she didn't have access to do that yet. "A pleasure, Doctor Francesco," she said, her voice having a faint accent that would be difficult to trace unless they heard her more. "I'm Ensign Rivers, Ops, reporting for my initial medical exam, Sir."

"Alright then." He pulled over the trolley with everything on it. "Any issues, aches, pains. Sleeping irregularities, change in eating habits or fluid consumption?" Leo fired away with the basic general questions first while he got the scanner ready and the screen to call up her records.

"Negative, Lieutenant," She said as she waiting to be told where to go. The department was huge and bustling with personnel and others coming and going. "I've never been sick in my life or had any broken bones in the last eight years."

"Alright, hop up onto the bed here and I'll run a scan of you." Wheeling the trolley to the bed. "Ensign Rivers, ok let me call up the medical file while you get comfortable, this shouldn't take long at all." Something should have stood out when she had mentioned never being sick in well, her life.

"Oh, and don't be confused by what you see on your scans," Autumn warned him. "I'm Lagashi and have more tech in me than your tricorder."

"Lagashi..." Leo spoke with slight confusion and surprise, then the realisation dawned on him he'd actually said that aloud. "My apologies." He swiftly added feeling a bit of a fool now. "I didn't mean to be so rude, it's just you are the first for me." It was one of those moments where brain didn't speak to mouth, he knew what he wanted to say but what came out was nothing like it or at best, sounded something far beyond what the situation presented.

"You aren't rude," she assured him politely. "At least, I don't consider anything you've said to be rude. Should I be offended?"

"I hope not." Leo knew the sooner he'd shut up the better the hole he was digging himself. "Alright, I'll run a scan, just to see what I'm working with. Anything you want to tell me about any implants or capabilities feel free to, this should only take a moment." Leo opened tricorder and slowly ran it from the crown of her head slowly down her body, amazement at the details and information that was being displayed on the little monitor. "Incredible."

Autumn analyzed his voice pattern for signs of distress or maliciousness or any intonations that could mean he was having other issues with her. Instead of responding to her analysis, she gave him a breakdown of her cybernetics from her AI and programs, her metal encased bones, synthetic skin, synthetic muscle bundles, ocular implants and finally her sonic projection ability. "That about sums it up, Doctor," she said.

"So, external layer is more resilient then organic epidermal layer, you are stronger than the average humanoid?" Leo asked as he wrapped up the scan which confirmed what he'd been told. "In the event of damage, for any reason. Is there anything I should know that might aid treatment? Protocols to consider, safety measures?" Last thing he wanted was to do something wrong amidst treating an injury on her.

"Do you have a PADD or cybernetic specialists on board?" she asked. "I can transfer all the treatments and schematics for everything with a point by point replacement or repair manual."

"I'm sure we have a specialist on board, but here is a PADD just in case." Leo handed over a PADD and resumed his medical checks. Running comparison checks against previous medicals everything seemed to be in order. As he looked at the screen flicking from display to display he was humming away to himself a tune from his youth in Italy. He knew he'd have to read up on her file a bit more, aside from being medically fascinating with all the implants and not a sign of rejection or anything to indicate a compromised immune system or the like.

One by one the tests were done pretty much in the same order as previous medicals, each time the results entered, logged and stored. "Medically as I'm sure you know yourself you are in perfect health, your results are well within norms of previous medical examinations."

Autumn accepted the PADD and linked to it since it wasn't the main computer and uploaded the information for her cybernetics and how to repair them if she got injured. "Here you go," she said after a second.

Leo was no technical wizard, some information made some medical sense, pictures and diagrams however were technical beyond his understand. He was after all a medical officer, not an engineer. "I'll log these in the medical database with your file and send them to Engineering. Should any fabrication be required they would be the best ones to do it."

"If I ever need a major upgrade, I'll have to go back to Lagash Prime," she told him. "They're the only ones who know our physiology in regards to cybernetics. I'm not saying your specialists don't, but I doubt with the hardware that I have in my brain with any amount of success."

"I understand." It made sense to go back to those that knew most, which for many was the world they came from. "Well everything checks out." Leo spoke as he made a quick double check to make sure that all the tests were completed, which they were. "I'll forward this to the First Officer, that done, you should be cleared for shift assignment."

"Thank you Doctor Francesco," Autumn said as she got to her feet. "For several things, such as not comparing me to a Borg or along those lines, and for being entirely professional and understanding."

Leo smiled as he turned to face her. "It was my pleasure." His accent getting stronger towards the end. "If l can be of any additional help, please do let me know. "

"I will,," Autumn said as she gave him a warm and friendly smile. "Maybe you can show me around the ship sometime. I like to turn off my AI once in a while and go native."

"I'd be delighted." Leo replied with the same friendly and outgoing nature as his previous answer to her. "When ever suits you and my duties to ship concluded, I'd be happy to tour you the ship."

"Cool. I mean, thanks," she said. "I'll let you get back to yours while I try to find my quarters. Nice meeting you, Doctor Francesco."

"Arrivederci, Autumn." Leo replied with the same pleasant smile which greeted her at the start. Then returned to his required duties following a medical exam.
