I Did A Thing

Mission:
The Nanjing
Location: Personal Quarters
Timeline: MD 1 || 1700 Hours
It had been a long day full of surprises, the unexpected, and a fight with his Executive Officer which was still at the front of his brain as he headed to his family quarters and entered. He removed his uniform jacket and placed it carefully on the back of a chair, then removed his command tunic after that, leaving just his undershirt on.
After he removed his boots, Michael stretched, then headed to see where Spencer and the kids were. One of the privileges of being the commanding officer of the ship was also having the largest quarters and he needed them with the two they had and the two on the way.
Spencer was stretched out in bed in her side while Ava and Little Mikey watched a movie. She felt like she was days away from popping, and had a strong feeling that would be happening at some point if the pains in her lower back were any indication. She looked up when her husband made his way into the room and smiled. "Hey. How was your day?"
"You wouldn't believe me if I told you, but here goes," he said as he leaned in to give her a kiss and began to relate the tale of Master Chief Barnes and the Borg 'black box'. "Maddy didn't like what had happened or that I was the one ordering it and lost her temper a bit."
All she could do was blink. It wad hard to believe, but considering what the ship and her crew had been through before, Spencer did believe it. "It sounds like you and the rest of the crew had quite the day. As for Maddy, I can see where she's coming from. I'd be a bit upset as well," she told him, tucking an arm under her head. "Is Tom okay?"
"He is now, as far as I know," Michael said. "But..there's more. Maddy was so upset that she tackled me and putting up a fight...and I kissed her."
"Wait..." Spencer said, struggling a bit to get to a sitting position compliments of her swollen stomach. She wasn't quite sure she heard him right, and wanted to clarify. "Did you say you kissed her? That's what I think I heard, but I want to make sure."
"Yes," he said. "Kissed her. She didn't kiss me back but it snapped her out of it and got her to stop trying to shove her pips..."
His wife nodded her head slowly, grateful their children were completely engrossed in their movie and not paying attention to their parents. "So... did you do it because you wanted to, or to snap her out of it?"
"I'm not sure, but it wasn't planned," Michael told her. "And I don't plan to repeat it. I'm just waiting for Mister Barnes to confront me."
"I... don't know what to think right now," she said, rising to her feet and running a hand through her hair. "I mean, part of me always knew there was some kind of attraction there, but now it's confirmed."
"Even I can't say it's an attraction. I should have tried to hit her in the head with my coffee cup like the last time we got into it."
Spencer arched a brow. "I thought she threw a coffee cup at you?"
Michael shook his head as he took off his uniform top and put it in the refresher to cycle it. "No, I threw it past her and it hit the ready room door, but I wanted to throw it at her head. I should have this time."
She turned to look at him. "So, what's going to happen now?"
"I don't know but she's got a hell of a temper and I'm not sure how much longer I can work with her if this keeps up. I'd love to have you back at my side, Spencer, but I know you can't."
"Let's not forget that you kissed her. And had she not stopped you, who knows how far things might have gone," the pregnant woman stated as she shoved her hands through her hair. Was she supposed to be pissed off? Angry? The truth was she felt a whole mix of emotions and was having trouble processing it.
"That wasn't planned or expected, honey," Michael said. "I'm sorry it happened."
Spencer couldn't talk about it in front of the kids anymore, even if they weren't paying their parents any attention. She took a deep breath and made her way into the living room knowing he would follow her. Until he did, though, she planned to take the time to gather her thoughts.
Her silence implied she was upset to him and he sighed inwardly and knew what was to come. Wanting a cup of coffee and dinner would have to wait, he decided as he followed her into the living room and waited for her to speak.
"I'm not angry," she promised him.
"Disappointed," he said.
"Maybe a little, but part of me expected it to happen at some point," his wife clarified softly.
"I'm sorry it did and it will never happen again," Michael promised her.
Spencer nodded her head. Did she really believe that? No, but she'd give him the benefit of the doubt. "I waited until you got home to order dinner. I wasn't sure what you'd want tonight."
"I don't know," he said with a shrug. "Surprise me. I just need coffee right now after today. Be glad you retired."
"I wasn't given a choice when it came to retiring. It was kind of forced upon me," she clarified ad she moved over to the terminal to access The Black Hole menu. "My health determined my retirement. Not me."
"I know, honey," Michael said sympathetically. "It's just things have gotten worse and I'm tempted to hand in my boxed pips."
Spencer turned away from the terminal to look at him. "If things have gotten that bad, then why don't you? Let Maddy take over, or allow Starfleet to send in a replacement."
"I doubt she'd take over anything," he said as he ordered a French black silk roast from the replicator. "However, it's not a bad idea. Let someone else handle the glory of commanding a flagship."
"It's your call to make," she said. "But, do you honestly want someone else's backside in the chair you've had since the ship's very first mission?"
"At this point, I really don't care," Michael said after a drink of his coffee and sat down. "I miss you."
Spencer placed a quick order of their favorites and turned to look at him. "Me and the kids are here, Michael, and we miss you, too. Let's set aside some us time. I'm due any day now, so we need to do it now before we can't."
"Maybe I will take a few days off and let Maddy handle things on the bridge," he said as he looked at her. "You, me and the kids can hide away in here and just enjoy being a family."
"You're the Commanding Officer, you can do whatever you wish to. If taking a few days off is something you want to do, who's going to tell you no?"
"True and consider it done as soon as we have dinner. For now, let me get in the fresher and out of this uniform and I'm all yours for the next few days." Michael said with a smile.
Spencer nodded her head and moved over to press a kiss to his cheek. "I'll be out here straightening up a bit while the kids are occupied."
"And then we can occupy ourselves with planning a little getaway. The planet the Bajoran colonists are on looks promising." he said.
"I'm not so sure a getaway is such a good idea this far into my pregnancy. Honestly, I really like the idea of staying close to the ship. My doctor is on board, and I can go into labor at any given moment," she pointed out.
"True, but we'll make it work here," Michael promised her and then gave her a kiss.
Spencer nodded her head and kissed him. "We will, and it will all work out."
"Just one last thing before we call it a day," he said as he retrieved his combadge and tapped it. "Computer, forward all communications not marked Eyes Only to Petty Officer Efits." He waited until the computer acknowledged, then set it down on the table.
"Now, I'm all yours and the kids."
His wife arched a brow. "Shouldn't you give Maddy some kind of heads up or something?"
"You're right," Michael said before he sent a comm to Maddy. "You have the bridge tomorrow. I'm taking the day off. Michael." He then turned to his wife again. "Now it's time to have fun, family style."
