Mission: An Orion to Die For
Location: CMO's office
Timeline: MD 1: 1800

Lt. (JG) Mar Megara was thrilled. She was finally done with the academy and about to start her internship. She had seriously underestimated exactly how elated she would be when the time finally came for her first posting.

And what a posting! She hadn't had time to check it out, yet, but there was a promenade level with all sorts of shops and restaurants and clubs. It was like being in a mini San Fransisco. After she got of duty tonight, if she wasn't to exhausted, she intended to thoroughly explore the entire level.

But, for now, she was required to report in to the CMO. Once she was done gazing around at the state-of-the-art equipment in the unbelievably big Sick Bay, she found a nurse and asked where she might find the CMO. She was directed to a room near the main entrance and after thanking the nurse, she poked her head through the open office door. "Doctor Caticasse?" she asked of the man behind the desk. "I am Lieutenant (JG) Mar Megara, reporting for duty." She added a bright smile, ready for the strange looks she always got as a Klingon with a Spanish accent.

The man behind the desk shook his head, and then nodded behind her just as a voice from behind joined the conversation.

"Lieutenant Junior Grade Mar Megara. Sorry about being a few seconds late," The voice said before the Lorillian stepped up next to her, drying his hands with a soft towel, "Got some blood on my scrubs, had to change into a new set." He gave a nod into the room. "I guess you didn't get to meet Lorne, yet."

"Warrant Officer Lorne Kelly, medical technologist." The man at the desk said with a quick nod. He finished up what he was working on and stood, quietly beginning to gather his things.

"He runs our pathology labs." Phen said with a quick nod. "I try to leave the office open for anyone who needs a quiet place to go over notes or write up patients. Yourself included," He said softly before giving the quick, "So make yourself at home. Replicator should have anything you want. Anyway, while you have a look - tell me about yourself."

"It is wonderful to meet you both," she replied, still smiling, but this time, looking around his office as she'd been invited to do. "I was born on Qo'noS, but moved with my mother to Earth as a child. We owned a pet shop. Well, mi madre did. Does. She still does, with my step-father. I enjoy rugby and Martial Arts. I studied Ninjitsu and Jiujitsu since I was about five years old. Also, I have never broken a bone," she added.

Phen stepped into the room, "Well, I'm a spacer - or boomer, I Think humans called them." He gave a quick shrug as he stepped around to the desk and took one of the chairs. "And, I don't know a lot of Earth culture. Lorne?"

"I'm actually from Polluxi," The Warrant Officer said as he headed to the door with his padds under his arm. "A pleasure to meet you Lieutenant," He said before slipping out of the office with a quick wave.

"So, knowing I've read your dossier, tell me about your experience. Why you accepted a transfer here. And so on." He gave a grin, sitting back in the chair and giving a nod.

"Well," she said, turning from her examination of the replicator, which was top-of-the-line for sure. "I just finished the Academy, and since I graduated second, they allow me to pick my assignment. To be honest," she added, a bit sheepishly, "I chose at random. I like the name." She shrugged with a slight grin.

"Congratulations," Phen gave a quick nod as he leaned back in his seat a bit. "Second in your class definitely nothing to scoff at." He sighed, "The patients here are always my first priority - above anything else. So you'll forgive me when I ask, is that all your medical experience? Did you take any practicums, or serve in any capacity other than a student prior to your transfer to the ship?"

"I did," answered Meg. "I worked for two years alongside doctors as a physician's assistant at the Starfeleet Command infirmary. It was an incredible experience."

"I have to ask - what do you consider your specialty, and how is your experience with emergency, triage, and combat?" He shook his head, "Weird order, but my mind jumps sometimes. Its why I ramble - you'll probably catch onto that quick."

"It is all right," she assured him. "I enjoy Pediatrics, though I understand there are not always children on starships. My instructors said I seem to have a knack for bones, so I suppose that would be my specialty.

"As for triage, my only real experience is simulations and drills; we did not get any real emergencies at Command. At least not any large scale ones."

"Well, that will likely get changed faster than we want." He said with a light shake of his head. "Just do me a favor and speak up. If you can't handle it your first time or need to step back say so; don't be a hero don't push through. Patients first." The Lorillian paused and shook his head, "Hopefully, a ship this large, you'll have time to get adjusted first."

He stretched. "On Peds, you're in luck. The Captain has kids, and there are little ones all over the ship." He shrugged, "Personally, I left my daughter on Dhei with her mother. But, if you like Peds, we'll get you working there some while you're on board. Won't be as much as on world, but I think you'll be surprised once you see the numbers."

"On that note," He was speaking a bit fast at that point. "There are two thousand crew, about five hundred marines, and about fifteen hundred civilians aboard. That's four thousand souls, more or less." He said leading up to his main thought, "We have a medical staff of two hundred. Which sounds great on paper. And is great. But, isn't what a lot of people on the ship seem to think. We have admin and medical technicians making up a lot of that, as well as morale and counseling. Actual doctors and medically trained staff is less than half that. So, how independent are you capable of being? What's your confidence level in yourself?" He paused, "I guess I'm asking how traditional you want your internship time to be."

"I am fairly confident that I can handle most cases that will walk through the doors," she replied. "But, at the same time, if something makes me uncomfortable, I am willing to say so and have someone watch me or show me how to do it. In short, I suppose I am comfortable as long as you are."

"Good, then I'll put you on the schedule as attending. I'll get that to you when I figure it out." Finn said with a little shake of his head. "Oh, and I run things like a hospital. When you come into sickbay, if you are going to be here any time, hit the locker room and change into medical scrubs. Keep scrubbed on duty. Don't wear your uniform in for medical work. We have a lot of different species, and not a lot of hands. We just cannot risk contamination."

"Understood, sir," Meg replied. "Scrubs, always. Is there anything else, sir?"

"No." He said simply, "Get some rest. Explore the ship. You're on call starting now. You'll be on the floor eight to twelve hours a day from here on out likely. Check the schedule soon for when you'll be on station." He gave a smirk, "And welcome aboard, again, if I said it already. I'm just a comm-badge away any time you need something."

"Thank you, sir," replied Meg, grinning yet again. "I look forward to working with you." With that, she turned to head to her quarters. She still needed to unpack, but then she was totally checking out that promenade level!
