Mission:
Strange Matter
Location: Ship wide
Timeline: MD 27/16.00 hours
Holly removed herself from the CMOs office and found a vacant work station and set about organising her 'mission'
In direct contrast to Lieutenant Gilahs dislike of computers talking back, Holly found a firm friend as she linked her list of errant crew and requested details of whether they were on or off duty and where each one was to be located.
That done she asked for a simplified version listing them in order of deck and 20 minutes after sitting down, she got to her feet with her checklist of 26 names and locations and an assurance from the computer that she would be notified if locations changed.
Furthest away was Deck 45 and the Topographic Engineering Centre where Ltjg Hudson was surprised to be cornered by the dark haired Ensign who offered to make an appointment for him to be seen in sickbay anytime within the next seven days.
The Ensign smiled and spoke politely and accepted the reason for two missed routine physicals as though it was perfectly understandable and only at the end did she mention that a third missed appointment would result in being removed from active duty.
Even that was said in a pleasant tone and when Holly mentioned that the CMO was keen to bring everyones medical histories up to date. Hudson hurriedly assured her he wouldnt be missing anything.
She thanked him for his time and departed leaving him feeling mildly guilty and mildly nervous because Gilahs reputation had been spoken of within his hearing.
Deck 43 proved to be an experience.
Holly received an offer of dinner next time she was free and two rather more suggestive offers, one of which made her face turn pink.
She listened to an indepth monologue about differing types of Torpedoes on Deck 36 and a shorter one about antimatter on Deck 32
but didnt mind at all talking to Tim Shortland in Stella cartography three decks up.
The excuses were often similar, double shifts, simple forgetfulness and a paranoid dislike of sickbays were the main ones and all the time Holly appeared sympathetic, understanding yet business like too in arranging appointments " to suit"
The day wore on, Holly had two cups of coffee, met a very nice man in the Federation Consulate Office and a very timid individual in the Arboretum Level 4 who told Holly that she had an aversion to people in white coats.
The list grew shorter but with only five names left, Holly met her nemisis.
Lieutenant Fielding looked her up and down and told her in no uncertain terms that he was a 'very' busy person who had 'little' time to spare and who cared not to have his 'valuable' hours taken up by 'unnecessary' examinations.
Sickbay, she learned, was staffed by barely qualified individuals who shouldnt be allowed to examine anything other than a wine list.
Holly frowned and explained the necessity for regular checkups but Fielding wasnt persuaded and pointed out that the last twice he had been subjected to these 'physicals' the doctors or 'so called' doctors had been fresh from medical school and he had no wish to be a 'victim' for them to 'practice' on.
Holly had been about to say that failure to attend the required routine physical would result in him being removed from duty when she had another idea.
Perhaps, she said, he would feel better if he had a more qualified doctor say for example the CMO?
He considered this, probably thinking that that was the least someone of his standing deserved and after a few moments, inclined his head in possible agreement but demanded when the CMO might be available.
Holly glanced at the padd in her hand wondering at the wisdom of this revenge for underappreciated medical staff.
"Tomorrow?...afternoon?...fifteen hundred ships time?" she suggested to which he agreed with ill grace.
"Perfect." she said, smiling to him, all the while crushing him to dust in her mind. " Thankyou for your time...sorry to hold you up."
Fielding ignored her and simply turned away.
Holly looked down at the floor, pressing her lips together so as not to laugh then with a final glance at his back, exited the room and thought how best to explain to Gilah that she was to expect a special patient the following day.
